Megadeth were formed in California in the early ’80s by ex-Metallica guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist Dave Ellefson drawing musical influences from NWOBHM bands such as Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Venom and Diamond Head along with classic metal and hard rock bands like Black Sabbath, UFO, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin & Scorpions and punk rock acts Sex Pistols and The Misfits. The band is considered one of the big four of thrash metal along with Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax and their albums Peace Sells.. but Whose Buying and Rust In Peace are considered formative albums and classics in the metal genre. Megadeth has sold in excess of 30 million albums with six having achieved platinum status along with twelve Grammy nominations taking out Best Metal Performance for their song Dystopia in 2017.
